October Wrap-Up

“Literature is the most agreeable way of ignoring life.” - Fernando Pessoa

In Reading...

Went hardcore fantasy, sci-fi only this month. Met with djinn, aliens, gods, mermaids and earth-shakers. Most of the reads this month were brutally sad, epic and well worth picking up.

The books of October, with links to my thoughts on them:

The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty

The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin

To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky Chambers

Shorefall by Robert Jackson Bennett

Favourite read was To Be Taught, If Fortunate. This was by far the easiest book to read this month. It's a short novella set in space but Chambers makes the topic so approachable. I loved her writing style, the story and characters were interesting and I think it's one of those books most people (regardless of genre preferences) would enjoy.

In Writing...

Still not making good progress. The novel is not exactly on standstill, but I have taken a break from working on it. I have a plan for some edits and I'm hoping next month to get my Nanowrimo brain into gear.

In Life...

Oscar celebrated his one year old birthday! So amazing to see how much he's grown and crazy how fast the year has gone. Parents visited and that was so nice to have them play with Oscar - especially considering the last time they saw him he was just 5 days old! Weather has taken a turn for the worst so no more park visits and way more cafe, watching the rain times...
