People who can be very good can be very bad too.

They Do It With Mirrors

by Agatha Christie

Genre: Murder Mystery

Mini Review

The story follows Miss Marple visiting an old (and very wealthy) friend, whose household is a mix of dependents, all with competing interests and high strung emotions. The result? Murder.

I don't often listen to audiobooks but this was a breeze to listen to. Two hours long with a full cast of voice actors, it held me completely.

I really liked the tease of the mystery. You could feel a mastermind pulling the strings behind the scenes but without being able to grasp the motive, it created a really sinister atmosphere. Agatha Christie lets you suspect the tricks but gives you plenty of distractions before the reveal.

I will say there are a lot of complex family histories to get to grips with, but the distinct voice acting and some repetition of information helps with that.

I also found the ending very rushed and a bit odd in it's light-heartedness given the death count. But those were minor things.

Overall, very enjoyable as an audiobook. I loved the layered histories of characters and how distinct their personalities came across. Highly theatrical and entertaining.
