This week I’ve been reading a lot and doing little work. That’s the way things ought to be. That’s surely the road to success. – Anne Frank
In Reading...
Spoiled for choice in excellent books this month. Four fantasies involving magical orphans, vengeful gods, talking keys and one-eyed tricksters. In contemporary fictions, a Marilyn Monroe-esque vixen tells her life story, and a wedding on an isolated island leads to murder...
The books of May, with links to my thoughts on them:
The House in the Cerulean Sea by T. J. Klune
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett
Graceling by Kristin Cashore
The Guest List by Lucy Foley
Favourite read was The Song of Achilles. I loved all the fantasies in this month's selection, but Madeline Miller's writing is so unique and utterly beautiful. If you have a love of Greek mythology, this will truly transport you and you'll find yourself falling helplessly in love.
In Writing...
Made it to the 50K mark in my novel and entered Act Three. Lots of notes made of things to go back and change but feeling optimistic that, once those changes are made, I'll have a reasonably good act one and two. Not looking forward to getting through the last part.
In Life...
It's actually summer! We haven't socialised properly in over a year but this month we caught up on lost time. Oscar hasn't enjoyed the change in routine but very impressed with how smiley and interactive he's been out and about.
